My name is Jem and I've made Halloween treat bags for the kids at the Children's Hospital since 2014.

This all started when I was watching a TV show with my younger siblings and the Halloween episode playing talked about how kids at the Children’s Hospital don’t get to live normal childhoods and experience a lot of “normal” kid events like trick-or-treating.

Because of their situation in life, they miss out on a lot of things other kids get to do, and this touched me. I reached out to the Children’s Hospital and asked if they would let me put together Halloween treat bags (which included sweets, healthy snacks, juice, and little toys) that they can hand out to the children on Halloween. I wanted to do something small that would put a smile on their faces.

When I was 16-years-old, I would save up for about a month or two so I could make the best treat bags I could for these kids. I would make about 50 bags every year and throughout the years, I was grateful enough to start getting some donations for the treat bags from my friends and family (be it little toys, sweets, and other snacks). Year after year, these Halloween treat bags became bigger and bigger!

Unfortunately, in 2020 I had to stop because of the pandemic, but I still wanted to do something to remind the community that the kids at the Children's Hospital still needed our help. I started an online fundraising drive (like this one) to remind my own friends and family that they can still donate because it's still needed.
